"New solutions and opportunities for the drilling industry
due to fit-for-purpose composite casing"
By Geertjan van Og
Glass Fiber Reinforced Epoxy (GRE) tubulars have been used in wells for many years. Mainly as tubing and for certain applications as casing. The used tubulars were primarily developed for surface applications and had certain limitations when used in downhole applications. Recently a composite pipe system has been developed specifically for downhole applications what makes a wider range of applications possible so has the casing been installed. The properties of the composite materials differ completely from steel what enables new solutions such as the use of openhole logging equipment in a cased hole. The low specific weight and corrosion resistance of the casing enable other opportunities that may result in large cost savings.
About the presenter:
Geertjan obtained in 1998 a Master’s Degree in Applied Physics at the Eindhoven University of Technology and in 1999 a Master’s Degree in Exploration Geophysics at the ENSPM in France. He held several operational and management positions in various countries for Schlumberger Drilling & Measurements until he joined Well Engineering Partners in the Netherlands in 2010. For Well Engineering Partners, he is involved in the development and implementation of innovative well construction and drilling technology.
